In reference to the question about the deadliest insect, I would guess you are right about honeybees being the number 1 insect killer (directly). Also, the jack jumper ant (Australia) kills more people in Tasmania than spiders, sharks, snakes and wasps combined! They are nasty little buggers. About 3% of sting victims have allergic reactions to the venom which causes anaphylactic shock. I would guess that they're next in line to bees.

Ah, Jack Jumper ants, insanely cool looking and aggressive.  Thank you!

What is the deadliest insect in the world?

Well, more people die from being bit by Anopheles mosquitos,  than any other insect- however, this is not direct- it’s the parasite that the mosquito is a vector for that kills them (same goes for Tsetse flies, sand flies, fleas and kissing bugs).  Directly?  I’m not sure but I’d guess some wasps/hornets or honey bees would be on the list- only because of allergic reactions (I love bees and wasps!) and maybe fire ants?  These are my guesses.  Anyone else have others they’d like to add?

After reblogging your "name that beetle larva" submission on my 'creepycrawlieslove' account I received a fan mail from 'ladylacklustre' suggesting that it looked a bit like a witchery grub. Whew. Like a game of telephone!

Oh thank you! You are talking about this post.  I shall let them know of the possibility. Although, aren’t Witchery Grubs in Australia?  I think OP is from No. America.  But I don’t know because Beetle Larva are super tough. I should go through my “unidentified” tag and retry some of them.  I love when bug mysteries are solved!
