“What is this little guy up to (and what is he)?”- inresponsetoirresponsibility

This is one of my favorite insects!  It is an Ichneumon Wasp.  Possibly a Ophion sp.  I can’t see if there is an ovipositor present so I couldn’t tell you the sex. Females have ovipositors that they use to deposit their eggs into caterpillars and other hosts to serve as a fresh meal for their developing larvae.  This means Ichneumons are parasitoids.  And very beneficial for your garden!  I think they are so beautiful.
